Farm To Glass Cocktails: Spring’s Alibi

spring_alibi

Time for another Farm to Glass cocktail! Now that we’ve trudged through winter and made it past April, it’s time to set our sights on summer… premature? Perhaps, but Mixologist Royce Johnson at Boise, Idaho’s ALAVITA has mixed up a drink that inspires happy thoughts of warmer weather and stays true to their claim to fame, using fresh, uncomplicated ingredients. Look no further for traditional Italian cuisine and cocktails with an Idaho twist. We give you, Spring’s Alibi.

Spring’s Alibi:

  • 1.5oz 44º North Magic Valley Winter Wheat Vodka
  • 1oz Grapefruit Juice
  • .25oz Green Chartreuse
  • .25oz Lime Juice
  • .5oz Black Pepper Simple Syrup*
  • Shake with Ice
  • Strain into Glass
  • Garnish with Basil Leaf

*Black Pepper Simple Syrup:

  • 1 C. Water
  • 1 C. Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Bring water to a simmer, add sugar and black pepper, stir till sugar is dissolved. Let simmer for 20 minutes. Strain out remaining pepper and let cool.

Sometimes the simplest variations to classic cocktails turn out to be the best. Adding black pepper simple syrup into the Spring’s Alibi balances out the sweet flavors of the lime juice and neutralizes the acidity of the Grapefruit, making for the perfect combination. The Magic Valley Winter Wheat Vodka is wonderfully rounded while the lime juice offers a tart hint that pops through the bold flavors – it’s hard to tell where one flavor ends and the other begins, a sign that a great cocktail is working its magic.
